At age 97, Norman Lear becomes the oldest winner in Emmy history

The TV icon won an Emmy along with Jimmy Kimmel Saturday night for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) for ABC's Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear’s All In the Family and The Jeffersons. "Thank you, thank you, and holy sh*t,” laughed Lear. “I got a great reaction, saying that when opening a Christmas present when I was seven years old. It’s 90 years later, and I feel much the same. Lear called the project “one of the greatest things that ever happened to me." He also thanked Kimmel. "It was all Jimmy Kimmel’s idea,” he said, while also thanking “all the farmers and the ranchers across the globe that have nourished me for all these years, and gotten me here tonight.” Kimmel said of working with Lear: "It’s the greatest thing you could ever imagine. It’s like dancing with Fred Astaire." Kimmel later posted a photo with Lear and their Emmys, writing: "One of the great thrills of my life is to have had the honor and pleasure of working with this incredible man - thank you @thenormanlear for letting me be part of your world." Lear won his first Emmy nearly half a century ago, in 1971, for All in the Family.
