Ava DuVernay is joining TCM's The Essentials

The Oscar-nominated director, who helmed the upcoming Netflix limited series When They See Us, will sit down with Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz each week on Saturday nights to introduce a hand-picked movie that they'll discuss, starting May 4 with the 1955 film Marty starring Ernest Borgnine. Other films they'll tackle include Rashoman, Harlan County, U.S.A., West Side Story and Dog Day Afternoon.
