Homecoming taps Janelle Monáe to succeed Julia Roberts in Season 2

The actress-singer-songwriter will play a "tenacious woman who finds herself floating in a canoe, with no memory of how she got there — or even who she is" on Season 2 of the Amazon series, according to TVLine. Monáe takes over as Homecoming's lead from Roberts, who only intended to star in the first season. Roberts will stay on as an executive producer. Season 2 is expected to "deviate wildly" from the podcast that it is based, but it's unclear if any Season 1 cast members will return for Season 2. Homeland Season 2 is expected to begin production later this summer with a premiere eyed for 2020. Monáe's acting credits include Moonlight, Hidden Figures and the upcoming Harriet Tubman biopic Harriet.
