Starz renews 50 Cent's BMF for Season 2

The renewal of BMF, or Black Mafia Family, comes four days after its premiere. The crime drama is based on a true story about the larger-than-life Flenory brothers who gave birth to one of the most influential crime families in Detroit in the late 1980s. Starz says BMF was the No. 1 premiere of the year on its Starz app. “Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson continues to find and cultivate stories like BMF that are culturally relevant, bringing the network important untold stories that are incredibly diverse both in front of and behind the camera,” said Jeffrey Hirsch, president and CEO of Starz. “Following such a strong debut, we’re excited to see what Curtis, Randy and the award-worthy cast deliver in the second season.” In a review of BMF, Caroline Framke says: "Given such rich source material, there’s almost too much for BMF to tackle, and it shows. But when it’s not too busy trying to work through its biographical bullet points, it can find moments of sharper insight — whether on Terry’s love of the game, Meech’s conflicted sense of duty, or their parents’ frustrated inability to pay their own way from within a stacked system — that deserve more room to breathe."
