West Hollywood symbolically votes to urge the removal of Donald Trump's Hollywood Walk of Fame star -- which he earned for Miss Universe pageant

The West Hollywood City Council doesn't have the power to remove the president's star from the Hollywood Walk of Fame because the star is not located in the city of West Hollywood -- it's located in the Hollywood district in the city of Los Angeles, in front of the Dolby Theatre where the Oscars are held. Nevertheless, the council made headlines on Monday by voting to call on Los Angeles and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which actually controls the Walk of Fame, to remove Trump's star. However, the Walk of Fame has a longstanding policy to never remove a celebrity's star for any reason. "Once a star has been added to the Walk, it is considered a part of the historic fabric of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Because of this, we have never removed a star from the Walk," the Chamber of Commerce's CEO said in 2015 when asked about removing Bill Cosby's star. Trump was presented with a Walk of Fame star in January 2007 timed with the premiere of The Apprentice: Los Angeles. Trump's star has been destroyed twice in the past two years, including last month by a man wielding a pickaxe. Trump's wasn't given a star for The Apprentice, however. He was honored for his work as producer of the Miss Universe pageant. The Walk of Fame bans reality TV stars, but like Trump, others (including Ryan Seacrest) have stars for their non-reality work.
