Mike Hagerty, Friends and Somebody Somewhere Actor, Dead at 67

Actor Mike Hagerty, best known for roles in Friends and HBO's Somebody Somewhere, has died at the age of 67. A cause of death has not yet been revealed.

Hagerty's passing was confirmed by his Somebody Somewhere co-star Bridget Everett, who plays his daughter in the HBO comedy. “With great sadness, the family of Michael G. Hagerty announced his death yesterday in Los Angeles,” Everett wrote in an Instagram post on Friday. “A beloved character actor, his love of his hometown of Chicago and his family were the cornerstones of his life... He will be sorely missed.”

Hagerty became a regular guest star on television in the 1980s and 1990s. His most recognizable roles include Friends' building superintendent, Mr. Treeger, and Rudy, the owner of a vintage clothing store, in Seinfeld. Hagerty also appeared in The Wonder Years, The Drew Carrey Show, ER, Deadwood, and Married with Children, among other high-profile series. More recently, he played Captain McGinley in Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

In 2022, Hagerty joined the cast of HBO's comedy Somebody Somewhere as Ed Miller, the father of Everett's character, Sam.

HBO said in a statement, “We are very saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Mike Hagerty. A member of the HBO family for many years, his most recent role as Bridget Everett’s father in Somebody Somewhere showed his special talent for bringing heart to a performance. Mike was a joy to work with and brought warmth and kindness to all who knew him. We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends.”

Hagerty is survived by his wife Mary Kathryn, his sister Mary Ann Hagerty, her wife Kathleen O’Rourke, and their daughter Meg.
